The subhuman was the one selling the t-shirt

There's nothing like being a Madridista and going two seasons without a glimpse of a trophy to make you a sore loser - and in some cases sore racist loser (though we would be quick to point out here at a-m we recognise the simple truth that all racists are losers). Thus the racist right were apparently organising outside the Madrid ground selling racist anti-Eto'o t-shirts. They should have been arrested. Elsewhere in my usual drinking hole to watch the Barça game, it suddenly seems to be acceptable to refer to Eto'o as "el negro ese" or 'that black'. Eto'o himself was quick to point out that when princess Raul got carried away in some victory celebration or other (obviously some time ago now), nobody seemed concerned enough vilify him in the press.
Denounced as a boring derby in the pro-madridista press, Atleti held Madrid to a 0-0 draw in their own stadium. Atleti played a great midfield game but were unable to finish and should have scored on more than one occasion - hats off to Leo Franco the Atelti keeper for saving their bacon. Barça were held to a 3-3 draw by the excellent and spirited Villareal in an exciting game. The best Madrid can hope for now is to finish 3 points behind Barça :)

Racist riot

To reply directly to Jallal - here's a link to a site giving some reference to what happened in Villaverde link here. There are some other reports in the Spanish press but the whole thing is being kept fairly quiet - no reference in Britain that I've come across. The whole thing is very worrying and one reason why I'll maintain the blog outside of the season -the underlying issues don't go away whether Madrid are playing or not.

all together now....

One of the nice things about living in a village with a high proportion of immigrants is that there is also a high proportion of anti-madridistas. So it was on Saturday night when I landed up to watch the Barça match and saw the number of people glued expectantly to the box, including one South American chap sporting a Barça shirt (he gets my vote). Levante gave them a run for their money alright but the second goal was good enough thanks very much. As I wandered home, there was a healthy number of cars driving around beeping their horns and the like - most madridistas at home crying by this time. So let's have a rousing rendition of "Real Madrid you've won *#$+ all again... etc. We also have some sympathy with Eto'o report here - who used a Spanish vulgarity (not a nice one) to insult the madridistas. Let them suffer in silence and let's not provoke any more reaction.

The final straight

Barça in fine form as they saw off one of their toughest challenges on the final haul beating Valencia 0-2 in convincing style. The Madrid also on form seeing off the lowly Racing Santander 5-0 at home, even Princess Raul was back on top - though the lad Owen showed the way.
Racism isn't only limited to football round here, unfortunately. A race riot involving 200 young madrileños seeking out immigrants to give them a good thumping last weekend has been reported mutedly and curiously hasn't appeared in the international press as far as we know. These charming characters beating up mothers in front of their terrified children. It appears to have been orchestrated by the same scum that organise on the terraces - ultra sur madridistas, for example. The politics of denial trundles on regardless - more of the same to come if nothing changes in the mentality of the citizens of this fair city.

It's been too long

Spent a long and much needed break at the beach getting away from all - these pages included. Not much madridismo in evidence, which was also pleasant enough. Valencianos supported Liverpool in the Champions League semi - a good place to be for this reason also. Walking along the beach back from the bar smelling the sea and victory simultaneously while texting like minded a-ms and Poolites was the business - now for the final and fingers et al crossed in anticipation after a 20 year wait.
